Decent Work in the Construction Sectors of Nepal and Thailand

During the past decade the idea of sustainable development has climbed higher on the international agenda; more and more stakeholders are involved in initiatives involving the issue.  With important investments going on in Nepal and Thailand, it was hope to develop a framework to promote there socially responsible investments in construction.

The objectives were to reach general agreement on:

  • Optimising employment opportunities in construction programmes;
  • Improving the implementation of key labour standards in construction projects with an emphasis on their monitoring and application; and also to;
  • Come to tangible results in terms of country specific objectives.

National consultants began work to take into account contracts ranging from large scale commercial construction works to community contracts with paid and/or unpaid labour.

D. Tajgman from LiD collaborated toward the end of the effort in consolidating the local research papers.
