Courses: Labour Rights, International Labour Standards and Globalization

Each country's possibilities of achieving economic and social progress are increasingly dependent on the globalisation of the economy and liberalisation of trade, whether in terms of export-oriented efforts or of import liberalisation. On the assumption that the introduction and application of labour standards are costly, sometimes governments are reluctant to push for higher standards, or they may even choose to reduce or dismantle standards in order to remain attractive for domestic and foreign investors. In this context it is important for governments, employers' and workers' organisations to be familiar with the system of international labour standards if they are to be used to promote their objectives.

In collaboration with the International Training Center of the ILO in Turin, these courses have been offered annually since 1997.  The course has evolved in these years in harmony with a shifting international concensus on globalization and labour standards.
